The ground floor of the Village Hall consists of a roomy entry annex, the main hall, stage, kitchen, bar, ladies, mens and disabled loos and the stairs to the first floor. The stairs have a Stanna lift to give access to the first floor.

The main hall is 12m x 12m square; with windows down both sides making it light and airy. A ground floor room, it is easily wheelchair accessible and accommodates 274 people standing (e.g. a disco type event), or a maximun of 137 seated at tables. There are 30 fold away tables that seat 8 people each, and a variety of 150+ stackable chairs.

The main hall is a blank canvas; poised and ready be decorated to suit your occasion. Allowing for a great variety of uses it can be turned into a wedding bower, a Halloween party, or anything you can imagine!

“My husband and I eloped to get married in April 2022, just us and our 2 children.  It was truly amazing and we had an incredible time, however, we missed sharing the moment with our family and friends.  We booked Porthtowan Village Hall, after we had visited it back in 2019 and decided it was the perfect venue, to celebrate our 1 year anniversary, with the number of guests we wanted to invite.

Porthtowan Village Hall is a huge diverse space.  As soon as you walk into the bright airy entrance hallway, you can start to imagine how you could dress it.  In this area is a serving hatch which we used for welcome drinks and the entrance to a separate bar area.  We used a fantastic local company, Bars on Legs, who we highly recommend.  I believe the hall now has a bar licence to man it themselves, but didn’t at the time of our booking.  From the hallway, into the main attraction, the main hall, with huge windows, high ceilings, lighting, stage and so many tables and chairs!  It was a no brainer for us.

We hosted our Ceilidh, using The Tinners, a local band from Pendeen, who were just incredible and again we highly recommend. The hall definitely was suited to this as it had so much space.  We placed tables around the edges, utilising the space in the middle, with the band on the stage.

We had 160 guests, children and adults. We were worried that maybe we had too many people, but because of the break out spaces (bar, entrance hall, room upstairs which we used for the young children, drawing/games etc, and the outside space), it worked really well.  We were lucky with the weather, as it was a lovely sunny day and the warmth carried through to the evening.

We decorated the venue with bunting, lights, flowers and foliage – simple but effective.  It really looked lovely once it was all finished and more so, once the darkness fell outside.  The festoon lights in the hall complimented our theme.

The booking process was easy.   Although there was a change, with the people that we dealt with over time, all questions (and I had a lot) were answered.  The committee were really helpful with meeting with us nearer the time, giving us access into the hall on a few occasions (they were very patient with us – thank you).

We highly recommend using this hall as a Wedding Reception Venue or Party Venue.  It just has so many possibilities, in terms of how you can dress and use the various spaces.  It has parking outside (which we used for guests who needed closer parking) and then the public parking just down the road, which is free after 5pm.  It is easy to find.   The hall has free WIFI, which ensured we could stream our music and allow the bar to use the card machine!

The only downside that I can think of, which is out of the committee’s control, is that the phone signal is awful, so you need to ask guests to pre-book taxis or arrange transport before your event.  We used Portreath Cabs, who were amazingly efficient and friendly.  All guests got home safely.

The Stage

At one end of the main hall is a roomy stage with a dedicated dressing room for hall hire use if needed. There is easy access to electrical points and the stage can be extended forward with additional staging if needed. Perfect for anything from a full blown Pantomime to a birthday party disco, from concerts to fashion shows.

Some lighting is included, but specialist lighting can be hired from regular Hall users Porthtowan Players.

The hall has a fully equipped kitchen with a serving hatch ideal for serving teas and coffee
